Carlsbad City Library hired BW Research to design and administer a series of public opinion research activities with a special focus on mid-life adults, ages 50+. The research activities were designed to both evaluate existing programs and services as well as identify unmet interests or needs not yet being served. Other community stakeholders, including the City’s Parks & Recreation Department, were consulted to see how this assessment process might also inform their efforts. The work completed by BW Research produced a comprehensive community assessment report that includes top-line data results from telephone and intercept surveys as well as a combined analysis of these results coupled with focus group discussions. Information gathered through these activities enabled the Carlsbad City Library to develop a mix of programs and services that are truly reflective of and responsive to their community’s rapidly emerging population of mid-life adults.
